Homonationalism is a misnomer for Homofascism within the polcompball community.

Homofascism is a culturally ♂️far-right♂️, 3rd positionist, and totalitarian ideology that embraces LGBT rights. It is essentially Fascism or Nazism but pro-LGBT.

Homonationalism and Homofascism were originally terms used to critique or insult LGBT acceptance movements, however they have over time taken on different meanings; Homonationalism being the concept of using LGBT issues for a nationalist agenda as well as seeing the compatibility between Nationalism and LGBT rights, while Homofascism is the aforementioned combination of fascist ideology with a pro-LGBT position to varying degrees.

Homonationalism

Homonationalism, on a literal basis, sees the compatibility between homosexuality, or rather LGBT [rights] in general, and Nationalism.

Compatibility Homonationalism

Homonationalism, in its most primary form, refers to the compatibility between Gay/LGBT [rights] and nationalism, essentially asking "Why can't I be a nationalist just because I'm gay?".

It thus takes on the form of a regular nationalism, just with a progressive stance on gay and/or LGBT rights. That means it can, but doesn't necessarily have to be culturally right-wing. With the obvious exception of policies LGBT issues, although even this is variable as some Homonationalists are Pro-LGB (thus Transphobic) or even just pro-Gay but more broadly Anti-LGBT, though the latter is rare.

Essentially every person and organisation/political party which is both Nationalist and, on some level, accepting of Gay/LGBT rights can be considered Homonationalist in its most primary form. This obviously excludes self-hating LGBT people.

Populist Homonationalism

In execution, Homonationalism often takes an LGBT-populist form that uses nationalist talking points, such as anti-immigration and anti-multiculturalism rhetoric, in order to preserve and further LGBT rights - as the migration of non-westerners (which often hold an anti-LGBT stance) is expected to proliferate violence, slow down, as well as hinder their acceptance & normalization.

Many European Welfare Chauvinist political parties adopt such homonationalist positions, examples of which include both the Dutch Partij voor de Vrijheid and the Swedish Sweden Democrats.

An explicitly Homonationalist political party, the DSLP - Democratic Gay / Lesbian Party - The People's Party, was active in Germany from 2013 until 2016, when it dissolved.

Propagandistic Homonationalism

The term "Homonationalism" has also been used to describe a western pro-interventionist propaganda tactic. In this tactic, the pro-LGBT (usually western) country uses their pro-LGBT stance in order to justify interventionist or imperialist measures against anti-LGBT states, thus drumming up support via a pro-war/intervention sentiment in the LGBT population. The most prominent examples of this are Israel and the USA. This tactic has also be described as pinkwashed imperialism.

Anti-Feminist Homonationalism

In the context of the Manosphere, Homonationalism can also refer to chauvinistic and Anti-Feminist right-wing gay men who take great value in masculinity and masculinism.

Homofascism

Homofascism is a form of Fascism, or more commonly Nazism, which embraces a pro-LGBT stance and LGBT acceptance to varying degrees. Homofascists would argue that their position of cultural, and often primarily ethnic or racial, preservationism, nationalism, and/or supremacy as well as advocacy for national cohesion and sometimes also more conservative social values are not contradictory with being pro-LGBT, as LGBT people are a natural part of human society that has and will always exist, and isn't causing any harm. Some more classical fascists may also embrace LGBT liberation as a part of the new fascist man/culture as advocated for by Italian fascism.

Contemporary Homofascism is primarily associated with internet subcultures, most prominently Femboys, for whom it is a, often unture, stereotype to be racist or fascist. Similarly, a few select transgender subcommunites also tend towards racism or fascism, as can for example be observed on 4chan; the most prominent product of trans fascism being Stransserism.

However, real-world Homofascist individuals and groups exist and have existed, with the most prominent example of a explicitly Homofascist political party being the American National Socialist League.

LGBT acceptance has slowly been growing among some more classical fascists in recent times, this could be seen as a manifestation of Homofascism by non-LGBT fascist allies.

Michael Kühnen, a formerly prominent figure in the German neo-nazi movement and leader of the Free German Workers' Party (FAP), came out as Gay while in prison in 1986, which caused a split in his party, notable here is that some decided to stay with him, even after founding a new political party, the "German Alternative" (DA), which had an estimated membership of 700.

Due to the requirement of the fascist having to explicitly be pro-LGBT, most gay/ LGBT fascists the term is levied against technically do not qualify as Homofascists due to them not embracing their LGBT identity, either suppressing it or hiding it from the public/ not making it part of their ideology.
